Ministry of Agriculture: No need to impose grain export quotas in 2012

2011-12-13 15:24:59

There is yet no need to introduce quotas on grain exports in 2012, Ukraine's Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food Mykola Prysiazhniuk told reporters at the end of year press conference.

"Today, we forecast grain exports in 2012 at 25-27 million tons in marketing year, i.e. until July 1. But so far the foreign market is not alive. Now we have exported 7.9 million tons of grain crops," the minister said.

According to him, Ukraine has already harvested 22.5 million tons of wheat, of which 60% - food wheat, and domestic needs make 5.5 million tons. "Therefore, Ukraine suffices the food grain reserves so far and there is no need for such measures. There are no threats to homeland security," Prysiazhniuk emphasized.

At the same time, he said that the application of quotas on grain exports in recent years has been justified.
