2011-12-08 11:14:50

Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk and his Polish counterpart Marek Sawicki have signed in Warsaw a memorandum of support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland for Ukraine's effort in the adaptation of its agricultural sector and rural areas to the EU standards.

"The Ukrainian-Polish working group has already been set up for harmonization of standards in agriculture in accordance with the requirements of EU legislation. Therefore, the signing of the Memorandum will further promote the implementation of public policies regarding cooperation in the field of agriculture in free market conditions and adapting the agricultural sector and rural areas of Ukraine to the EU standards," Mykola Prysiazhniuk noted.

The ministers discussed at the meeting the dynamics of bilateral trade and economic relations in the sphere of agriculture. Prysiazhniuk noted that the trade in agricultural products between the two countries is growing.

According to Prysiazhniuk, in only 8 months of 2011, the export of Ukrainian agricultural products to Poland amounted to 287.6 million USD and import 221.8 million USD, which is higher than for the whole of last year.
