Agriculture ministry denies would-be restrictions on wheat market

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine promises not to impose any more restrictions on the wheat market, Serhiy Kvasha, director of the ministry's department for economic development and agricultural market, told a press conference.
He stressed that this especially concerns bread wheat. "We took note of this year's lessons and we'll do together with businesses everything so as not to impose any restrictions, as it hampers both the image and the terms of trade," he said.
Grain export quotas were introduced in October last year. It was envisaged that the quotas would be in effect until December 31, 2010. In late December, the quotas were extended until March 31, 2011. In late March, it was decided to extend the quotas until July 2011.
On May 25 this year, the Cabinet of Ministers abolished export quotas for wheat and barley.
