Expert: Ukraine to remain a world leader in sunflower seed production next year

Ukraine will remain one of the world leaders in the production of sunflower seeds (eight million tons) and sunflower oil (3.25 million tons) in the 2011/2012 marketing season, Director General of the Ukroliyaprom Association Stepan Kapshuk has said at a conference "Oil and Fat Industry 2011" in Kyiv.
He said that Ukraine continued to be a leading exporter of sunflower oil - 2.8 million tons, or 54%, of the volume of world exports of sunflower oil.
Kapshuk also noted that although sunflowers were the most profitable crops, the production of rapeseed and soybeans had been growing over the last three years. It is expected that in the near future, soybeans and rapeseed could reach sunflower in terms of production volumes.
In the 2011/2012 marketing season, the overall production of major oilseeds in Ukraine will exceed 12 million tons with the capacity for their processing being 11 million tons (as of September 1, 2011).
