Ukrainian lands taken on lease by foreigners from 30 world countries

Non-residents of Ukraine from 30 world countries rent over 12 million ha of the Ukrainian land, Chairman of the Union of Agricultural Servicing Cooperatives Ivan Tomych has said during the round table in Kyiv.
Citizens of the European Union, the USA and China make up the largest number of such lease holders, the expert said.
According to him, in the nearest future, China is planning to become the largest land tenant. For reaching this goal, a special fund has been formed there, whose total amount will make up USD 400 billion.
Tomych underscored that information about foreign land tenants is not spread officially. The State Agency of Land Resources should make it public, he summed up.
The Chairman of the Union of Agricultural Servicing Cooperatives also noted that all farm lands should be the national property and local communities should use them, like they use water, forest and other natural resources, and they should have a choice either to be engaged in farming or to put land out on lease to individual farmers or collective economies.
"A person should use the farm land who lives on it and cultivates it," Tomych summed up.
