Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn hopes that the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement will be drafted before the Ukraine-EU December summit.

"We are awaiting the final edition of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement before the summit, so that the document is prepared for signing in the first half of 2012," he said at the Thursday meeting of the Committee for Ukraine-EU Parliamentary Cooperation in Kyiv.

Ukraine and the European Union are passing through a vital stage of their relations, Lytvyn said.

The only matter requiring "additional efforts of the sides" is a compromise wording of the future Ukraine-EU relationship, he said.

"We fully realize the political complexity the issue presents to the European Union at the current stage of its political and economic development and clearly see the profundity of our 'domestic tasks'," he said.

Kyiv and the EU have completed negotiations on the Association Agreement. The negotiations lasted for four years.

All the unsettled problems but one requiring a high-level political decision were resolved at the last 21st round of the negotiations, which took place on November 11, a source at the Ukrainian mission to the EU told Interfax in Brussels.

"The sides agreed to all items on the agenda, but wordings that require political approval, among them provisions on the European aspirations and prospects of Ukraine," the mission said.

Ukrainian leaders have repeatedly confirmed the need for legalizing Ukraine's EU membership prospect.
