Bulgaria will join new EU member states’ request that the maximum annual subsidies for agricultural producers be doubled to € 600,000, Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov told the Bulgarian Parliament’s Agriculture and Forests Committee late Wednesday, the Trud daily learned.
The European Union's largest farms will see their EU direct subsidies capped at € 300,000 a year from 2014 as part of a planned reform of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy. According to the European Commission’s preliminary estimates the cap on subsidies in Bulgaria will allow for € 11 million to be reallocated to the Rural Development Programme.
