2011-11-24 16:26:18

The volume of foreign trade between Ukraine and Russia in the first ten months in 2011 compared to the same period in 2010 grew by 63%, to USD 43 billion, Head of the State Customs Service of Ukraine Ihor Kaletnik said on Thursday, the service's press office has reported.

Kaletnik said that imports had increased by 70%, to nearly USD 27 billion, while exports had grown by 52%, to more than USD 16 billion.

The head of the State Customs Service said that serious political decisions taken at the highest level favored the situation, but much depends on how effectively they are being implemented by the local authorities.

Kaletnik also described as a serious step towards cooperation with Russia the signing of an agreement on the creation of the Yaroslavna euro-region in the Kursk region of Russia and the Sumy region of Ukraine and its implementation.

As reported, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, at a meeting with Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller on May 24, expressed confidence that the trade turnover between Ukraine and Russia in 2011 would exceed USD 50 billion.
