The final condition of winter crops and the size of their losses in Ukraine will become clear in seven or ten days. Now experts admit that the risk zone covers about 30% of the acreage, Serhiy Kvasha, director of the agriculture ministry's agrarian market development department, told the fourth international conference on agricultural investment in 2011, which was held in Kyiv.

"According to agronomists at individual farms that we visited, a realistic assessment of the state of winter crops is possible in a week or ten days maximum. Now they say that about 30% of crops are in unfavorable conditions, but this estimate may be changed in one or in the other direction, depending on how the situation develops," the official said, commenting on the results of the inspection of fields.
