Yanukovych: Ukraine gathers record grain harvest in 2011

In 2011 Ukraine gathered an all-time record harvest of grains and legumes, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said while opening an event to mark Day of Agriculture Workers in Kyiv on Friday.
"This year Ukraine, with confidence, underscored its title as the leading grain producer of the world. Our country ranks eighth in terms of wheat exports, third in terms of maize exports, and first in terms of barley exports. We have harvested over 50 million tonnes of grain and are expecting to harvest over 55 million tonnes, which will be an all-time record of our state," he said.
The president also praised agriculture workers of Poltava region, who harvested over five million tonnes of grain and legumes, Vinnytsia region, which harvested four million tonnes of grain, as well as Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa and Kharkiv regions, which harvested over three million tonnes of grain.
