Foreign direct investments go down 54% in first nine months in Romania

Foreign direct investments in Romania stood at some EUR 1.17 billion  in the first nine months of the year, down 54 percent compared to the same period in 2010, according to Romania’s Central Bank (BNR). Non-residents’ direct investments in Romania financed around 31 percent of the current account deficit.

Out of the total figure, equity stakes consolidated with the estimated net loss amounted to EUR 943 million, while the intra-group loans stood at EUR 232 million.

The current account deficit between January-September 2011 amounted to a total of EUR 3.7 billion.

In 2010, foreign direct investments to Romania were down 25.6 percent compared to 2009, to EUR 2.5 billion.
