Azarov: Ukraine ready to implement joint projects with Saudi Arabia

2011-10-21 12:03:27

Ukraine is ready to implement joint projects with Saudi Arabia, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said during a meeting Thursday with the head of the advisory body of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Ibrahim Aal Al-Sheikh.

The head of government noted that this year the political dialogue between Ukraine and Saudi Arabia is much more active: the ministers of transport, finance and agriculture, as well as an aide to the minister of defense visited Ukraine. Therefore, he said, it's time to move on to specific projects, to which Ukraine is ready.

The Premier informed that this year Ukraine harvested more than 50 million tons of cereals and is ready to export 25 million tons. He suggested that Saudi Arabia become a representative of Ukraine in the Middle East, particularly in the countries that need agricultural produce.

The Prime Minister also offered cooperation in the fields of aircraft manufacturing, shipbuilding and aerospace industry. According to him, Ukraine builds most up-to-date aircraft (AN-148, AN-158 and AN-74) and engines for all types of helicopters produced in Russia.

"We believe the trade turnover between our countries in the amount of $300 million as extremely small. It could easily be increased at least tenfold," the Prime Minister said.

Abdullah Aal Al-Sheikh, in turn, said that, during his visit to Ukraine, and in particular today's meeting, he received a lot of useful information that will facilitate the development of bilateral relations.
