Agriculture Ministry upgrades forecast for grain harvest in Ukraine to 52-54 million tons

The Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry has upgraded its forecast for Ukraine's grain harvest in 2011 to 52-54 million tons, Director of the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry's Department for the Development of the Agricultural Market Serhiy Kvasha has said.
"There have been a lot of forecasts, and some forecasts were first wrong, including those of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, but eventually the forecasts came to a clear figure of 52-54 million tons. The harvesting of corn is now being completed, and after that the situation with all balances will be clear and it will be possible to finally determine the country's export potential," he said.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry predicted that Ukraine would harvest 50-52 million tons of grain in 2011 and export about 24-25 million tons.
